This month, we look at how M-EC Consulting Development Engineers helps to develop and support the careers of its reservist and veteran employees through apprenticeship schemes and mentoring.

ABOUT M-EC CONSULTING

M-EC Consulting is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy. Operating from offices in Brighton and Leicestershire, M-EC Consulting offers an extensive range of services across a wide spectrum of disciplines including civil and structural engineering to flood risk assessments and air quality monitoring. Dedicated to delivering technical and sustainable results for its clients, M-EC Consulting counts some of the UK’s largest house-builders, property developers and land planning agents among its clients.

Proud to support those who serve, M-EC Consulting signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2015 and has since employed several members of the Armed Forces including veterans, reservists and cadets. Recognised for its on-going support to members of the Armed Forces Community, M-EC Consulting swiftly went on to achieve the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2016 – making it the first SME in the UK to have achieved gold.

WHAT DOES M-EC CONSULTING OFFER TO THE ARMED FORCES COMMUNITY?

M-EC Consulting recognises the transferable skills and expertise of reservists and ex-military people and the benefits that they bring to the company. In order to support and nurture military talent from the beginning of their second careers, the company has opened its apprenticeship schemes to members of the Armed Forces community. Offering on-the-job learning across a range of disciplines such as civil engineering, ground investigation and structural planning, the apprenticeships help participants to gain new skills and experience.

In addition to this early career training, M-EC Consulting also offers military employees further benefits including company mentors, flexible working for spouses and veterans, as well as two extra weeks of annual leave for reservist employees – so that they can carry out their military training and commitments.

Playing an active part in helping to support the Armed Forces community, Edward Mewies, Managing Director of M-EC Consulting, sits on the Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations (RFCA) Committee in Leicestershire and Rutland and has previously run several networking, training and development days, for reservist units. He hopes he’ll be able to offer these  networking days again once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

“Veterans and reservists bring skills and experience to our workplace that we can all learn from. They are relentless in their drive to succeed and keep pushing on through challenges to achieve their goals. They display commitment, leadership and organisational skills and it’s a fantastic honour to employ those who serve to protect us”

Eddie, Managing Director, M-EC Consulting
