GET ON THE RIGHT TRACK WITH A HUGE RANGE OF ENTRY-LEVEL ROLES, WITH FANTASTIC LONG-TERM CAREER PROGRESSION, AND EXTENSIVE UPSKILLING OPPORTUNITIES

High Speed 2 (HS2) is ramping up and will transform Britain’s transport network by creating a fast and environmentally friendly alternative transport option linking our major cities.  But the HS2 project is also transforming people’s lives by providing thousands of long-term, lucrative career opportunities at all levels.

Many of these exciting opportunities are a perfect fit with the unique military talent pool, and ex-military and reservists are in high demand on the project.

Carmichael UK, specialists in recruiting for the construction and civil engineering industry, are working alongside four of the leading companies on the central section of the project to help fill these roles.  Carmichael UK is responsible for helping to provide the labour to build an 80km section of HS2 from The Chiltern Tunnels through to Long Itchington Wood.

More than 20,000 jobs are now supported by the HS2 project.  Many of these jobs are suited to ex-military personnel because of the work that needs to be done, and the mindset that the workers need to demonstrate.  The central section involves building 15 viaducts, 22 road diversions and shifting a phenomenal 30 million cubic metres of muck.  Teamwork is essential, discipline is essential, integrity is essential, a love of being part of something big and bold is essential.  These opportunities are just shouting out to be filled by ex-military and reservists.

DISCOVER AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU

EKFB, the joint venture company responsible for the central section of the works, has awarded two contracts to Carmichael UK.

The first contract is for the supply of permanent and contract recruitment of white-collar workers.  This includes Engineers, Surveyors , Quantity Surveyors , Quality Professionals, Health and Safety Professionals , Logistics Coordinators, Administrators, Management and Supervisory personnel.

The second contract is for the supply of blue-collar personnel including all trades, logistics, plant and labouring roles.  Both of these contracts are perfectly suited to ex-military and reservists and both contracts offer fantastic opportunities to start a new career away from the military but using the skills learned in the military.

Working for Carmichael UK on the HS2 project will provide you with stable, long-term, competitively paid employment, with opportunities to upskill as the project progresses.

Carmichael UK have multiple opportunities for skilled and unskilled roles, many of which are eligible for payments of lodge and or travel allowance.  Carmichael UK, awarded Bronze in the Armed Forces Covenant Employers Recognition Scheme, understands the unique and highly sought-after transferable skills of military personnel, and wants to speak to you now about these roles.

“We have a huge number of opportunities for work within this project, both short and long-term, which we know will suit ex-military personnel and reservists. We also want to let serving personnel know even though you may not be looking for work now, we will happily speak to you about what opportunities could be available to you in the future, as well as providing advice on what you may need to do to upskill,” said Managing Director, Rod Carmichael.

“Our entry level jobs, or ‘blue collar roles’ are well paid and provide training opportunities to enable you to develop your skills.  Thirty-five years ago, I started my career as a dump truck driver and by taking the opportunities given to me, I progressed to become a Site Agent.  I want to see other people take the opportunities available to upskill themselves and transform their lives whilst building one of the most iconic and important infrastructure projects in Europe today.  We believe that although you may start your career in an entry-level role, the opportunities to develop your career in the future on the HS2 site through us are endless.”

With entry level positions having the potential to earn packages of more than £40,00 per annum as a starting wage, these roles will be in high demand.  Examples of the estimated weekly earnings for Plant and Vehicle Marshalls and HGV drivers, which are entry level roles, are shown below:

For those with experience of driving heavy machinery, the earnings can be even higher.  The example below shows the estimated weekly earnings for Dump Truck Drivers:

“We would like to be the middleman between you and your transition into the construction industry, offering not only employment opportunities, but the chance to help you further your career in the long-run,” added Rod.

“We also want to manage expectations and understand you may not be in the job you want to be in right now.  But you have the chance here to be a part of a huge project which can open doors for career progression both within our own projects and beyond.”

This project is a fantastic opportunity for ex-military and reservists to use their unique skills and experience to be part of something massive.  As well as entry and mid-level civil engineering and construction opportunities, there are managerial roles for those with solid project management and effective problem-solving skills.  You can find out more about Carmichael UK and the wealth of opportunities available here.
