Build your own pipeline of ex-military cyber warriors

Reap the benefits of providing paid work placements to veterans newly-skilled as ‘ethical hackers’

SaluteMyJob’s Cyber Jumpstart ‘pathways’ programme attracts, selects, trains and places talent from the Armed Forces into employment in cyber jobs. Having acquired the skills, the barrier they face is practical and commercial experience. To overcome this, from summer 2023 onwards, we’re  looking for employer partners to provide paid work placement opportunities and entry level employment opportunities.

Technology is central to every role in the Armed Forces. Therefore Service men and women often possess many of the technical and soft skills and experience needed to succeed in cyber security roles. Military personnel are instilled with a security mindset, are exposed to networking and communication systems, to cyber and information security and many will have experience with the intelligence side of technology and the associated risks.

For the latest addition to our programme, we have teamed up again with Abertay University to deliver a pioneering ‘Ethical Hacking’ pathway. This is designed to support members of the Armed Forces community on their journey towards a promising and exciting career in roles where employers face a significant skills shortage.

The Ethical Hacking, or Penetration Testing, pathway will help interested members of the Armed Forces community to develop a critical understanding of the tools used to examine the security of a device or network. Upon completion of the programme they  will be able to sit the CompTIA PenTest+ exam and have an opportunity to gain a recognised qualification in Cyber security.

Andrew Jackson, Managing Director of SaluteMyJob, said: “There is a notable shortage of penetration testers and we believe members of the Armed Forces Community are well-equipped to fill this shortage. As an employer, in providing the essential experience veterans need to apply their learning in practical and commercial environments, you will be able to build a pipeline of loyal, skilled specialists, who are keen and willing to learn and who will impact positively on your business.”

As well as the Pen Testing Course, SaluteMyJob, alongside IBM’s skillsbuild platform, provides a number of dedicated training pathways to the Armed Forces Community, you can find out more here and if you would like to provide work placements for any of our pathways, we’d love to hear from you.
