Employers are urgently seeking ex-military people for Security Operations Centre (SOC) analysts, so now is the chance to take a leap into beginning your cyber career. But where do you start? Here we look at the first stepping stone to a career in Cyber Security Operations - the role of Level 1 SOC Analyst.

WHAT DOES A SOC ANALYST DO? 

A Level 1 SOC Analyst monitors SIEM alerts and manages and configures security monitoring tools. They prioritise and triage alerts or issues to determine whether a real security incident is taking place. 

HOW MUCH DOES A LEVEL 1 SOC ANALYST MAKE IN THE UK?

The average salary expectations are: £35,000 - £45,000

IS CYBERSECURITY OPERATIONS THE RIGHT CAREER PATH FOR ME? 

Most Service men and women with a background in military operations (at any level), have been responsible for incident management and standard operational procedures so will be well-suited to a career in cyber operations. SOC roles are not deeply technical, so your military security training and experience are directly transferable to SOC analyst/ incident management roles. The SOC analyst role is a great entry point and first step on the ladder into the cyber security world.
