DATA analytics is predicted to be one of the fastest growing career fields. Industry experts predict that businesses will need to hire 200,000 data analysts by 2018, with suitably qualified candidates already in short supply. Employers find that former Service men and women are well suited to these roles. Therefore SaluteMyJob, IBM UK and the Corsham Institute have joined together to provide veterans with free training and certification in IBM’s i2 Analyst’s Notebook data analysis software.
SaluteMyJob, IBM and the Corsham Institute are pleased to announce that 75 veterans have now qualified as data analysts through their IBM i2 Analyst Training Course.
All those who successfully pass the free, five-day course are accredited by IBM as certified data analysts on IBM's i2 Analyst Notebook tool. This qualification will assist individuals looking for employment as data analysts, especially with organisations who use this product.
Since 2015, The Corsham Institute has hosted six courses at its Hartham Park facility, with three further courses planned this year. The students have achieved a 100% pass rate, thanks to their hard work and the support of IBM’s trainers.
SaluteMyJob surveyed the qualified data analysts - and of the 32 who responded, 27 are now in employment, with 75% saying the course helped them improve their confidence in finding a job.
Those who took part in previous courses have praised the training they received, describing the five days as an “excellent learning experience”. Richard, who took part on our March course, said: “The course is an excellent and very practical introduction to the IBM i2 Analyst Notebook software. It is centred on actual operational use of the system rather than just passing the exam, hence very useful.”
“I hope that others will be able to benefit from an ongoing collaboration between Corsham Institute, IBM and SaluteMyJob. Having an additional certified skill to put on my CV and being in a learning environment has had a positive impact on my resettlement. I travelled back from Italy to complete the course and I'm pleased I did - and would recommend it to others,” said Adam, one of our October 2016 students.
Another participant added: “It contained far more information than I had imagined, which is a good thing! This training, combined with my military training, will help me to move out of a very narrow field and into a position where I can apply for more general intelligence roles, and more towards data analysis and ultimately more commercial work.”
Managing Director of SaluteMyJob, Andrew Jackson, said: “Data analytics is predicted to be one of the fastest growing career fields and, with qualified candidates in short supply, SaluteMyJob is proud to be part of a training programme that qualifies veterans as data analysts, ready to successfully transition into a civilian career and help fill this significant skills gap.”
Mark Wakefield, Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs Manager at IBM, said: "Veterans, and supporting them into employment, is high up on IBM's Citizenship agenda. We are delighted to contribute to this productive partnership that enables former Service men and women to add skills in demand by employers to their acquired military knowledge, skills and experience. The 100% pass rate is testimony to the calibre of students attending the courses, whom we see as highly employable as data analysts."
“The success of the IBM i2 course for Service Leavers has been incredible with 100% pass rate in the UK. Huge commitment made by the IBM Citizen Programme to sponsor these courses and congratulations to Salute my Job for facilitating the programme. It has been a pleasure to be involved in this project and we look forward to welcoming the 2017 students,” said Claire Alexander, Chief Operating Officer at the Corsham Institute.
SaluteMyJob, alongside IBM and the Corsham Institute are looking forward to facilitating a further three i2 courses this year - helping qualify more veterans into a fast-growing industry.
