SVETS Employers’ Forum

The Scottish Veterans Employment and Training Service (SVETS) is hosting its first Employer Forum in Edinburgh on 21st March. The aim is to bring together Scottish employers interested in supporting the employment of veterans and reservists with SVETS’ partners. The forum is will focus on sharing information, best practice and coordinating practical activities.

SVETS is a collaborative initiative between agencies in Scotland that are actively engaged in veterans’ employment. Launched in October 2015 by Keith Brown (Veterans’ Minister), Eric Fraser (Scottish Veterans’ Commissioner) and General Sir Nick Parker (SaluteMyJob’s Chairman), partner organisations include:  The Scottish Government, Veterans’ Scotland, The Career Transition Partnership (CTP), The Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Job Centre Plus, Skills Development Scotland, Business in the Community (Scotland), The Shaw Trust, The Wise Group, YouTrain, Volunteer Scotland, Forth Valley College and The Salvation Army.

The Scottish Veterans’ Commissioner’s recent Employability, Learning and Skills report concluded that ‘the employment prospects for the next generation of veterans should be greatly enhanced’. Encouraged by the Scottish Government’s support, SVETS’ partners have taken this as our goal, along with establishing a collaborative alliance with employers in its delivery. In our view, the engagement, support and activities of Scottish employers are the keys to successful achievement of these objectives. To help us move further towards our goal, SaluteMyJob, on behalf of SVETS’ partners, would like to invite you to join the SVETS Employers’ Forum at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 21st March at Earl Haig House, 66 Logie Green Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4HQ.

The forum will be followed by a Scottish Parliamentary Reception in Holyrood that evening. The reception has been organised to promote a toolkit, developed by Business in the Community (BITC), SaluteMyJob, SVETS, and the Scottish Government, to help businesses become Armed Forces-friendly employers. Employers are invited to come with questions on how they can become Armed Forces-friendly employers and the benefits of doing so. If you would like to attend, please register here.

Other activities planned for 2017 are a dinner in The Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle in May and a conference in October.

The  SVETS Employers’ Forum is invite only but if you are a Scottish employer and interested in attending please contact the SVETS team on info@svets.org.uk or 0131 513 9750.
