Persimmon Homes has appointed Gateshead College to support its programme to retrain ex-military personnel for a career in the construction industry.
The college will train all of Persimmon's Combat to Construction employees, as well as support the company's Up-skill to Construction programme, reports insidemedia.com.
Richard Latham, group HR director at Persimmon Homes, said ex-forces personnel are bringing "many benefits" to the business.
"In our experience they are well motivated, keen to learn a new trade and used to being in a learning environment," he said. “We have already seen some of our successful combat to construction trainees move beyond the building site and into site management."
The leading housing company has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and works in partnership with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), Regular Forces Employment Association (RFEA) and Support for Britain's Reservists and have many opportunities on site and in their offices for ex-military personnel.
