A SPECIAL dinner for employers in the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle has been organised by SVETS to discuss enhancing the employment prospects of Scottish Veterans.
Sponsored by Brewin Dolphin and Business in the Community Scotland, the dinner is an opportunity for employers to learn more about and contribute to a new, employer-led project to connect transitioning and ex-military jobseekers with opportunities offered by Scottish employers.
SVETS is a collaborative initiative between organisations in Scotland that are actively engaged in veterans’ employment. It was launched as an information-sharing group in October 2015 by Keith Brown (Scottish Veterans Minister), Eric Fraser (Scottish Veterans’ Commissioner) and General Sir Nick Parker (SaluteMyJob’s Chairman). The SVETS team now seek the active support of Scotland’s employers to join together to help bridge the significant gap that currently exists between employers and jobseekers from the Armed Forces community.
Keith Brown, Eric Fraser and Maurice Corry, Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Veterans and Armed Forces Community Cross Party Group, have been invited to attend the dinner on May 31st.
Almost 100 employers in Scotland have pledged their support to the Armed Forces, including the employment of veterans. The hope is that employers will wish to take the opportunity of the dinner to contribute opportunities and other resources to the Scottish Veterans’ Employment Project. The event will also be a good opportunity for employers to meet other Armed Forces friendly business leaders who benefit from employing veterans and who contribute to the diversity and skills of their workforces.
The dinner is invite only, but if you are an employer and have an interest in attending, please contact SVETS at email@example.com.
