Automated Warehouse Engineer

Location: Huntingdon
£34,257 + 23% shift allowance (4 on days; 4 off days, 4 nights on etc)

Role Summary

Are you a self-motivated self starter able to work in a team environment? Our client is seeking applications from ex-military personnel with an engineering background to take on the role of automated warehouse engineer. The successful applicant will provide engineering support to all automotive warehouse and conveyor systems to ensure that all breakdown, pre-planned maintenance and improvement work is carried out to required standards.

The Company

Our client runs a fully automated warehouse supporting three modern meat packing factories which run 364 days a year.  It is the UK market leader, and invests heavily in the state of the art technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • To diagnose all faults and carry out remedial action to required standards.

  • To propose improvements to all equipment in order to improve reliability and efficiency.

  • To attend Process Improvement Team meetings on lines to drive an increase in Overall Equipment Effectiveness working hand in hand with the production and logistics teams.

  • To complete breakdown reports on all work undertaken.

  • To ensure that parts used are booked out of the stores department in the correct format.

  • To assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment as necessary.

  • To contribute to any special projects that may be required.

  • To perform preventative maintenance.

  • To provide support and guidance to warehouse operatives.

  • To work in conjunction with contractors as necessary.

  • To adhere to all required hygiene and health and safety rules.

  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required.

  • Ensure the culture of continuous improvement is maintained and developed throughout the factory.

  • Support the company’s risk management strategy.

Key Requirements

Professional Skills

  • Must have served a recognised apprenticeship to ONC/HNC level or an equivalent standard (must be electrically biased), with proven track record in electrical control (PLCs, contactors, relays, safety ccts etc.)

  • Experience within an automated environment would be a distinct advantage.

    Personal Skills/Competencies

  • Good mechanical knowledge (though electrical becoming increasingly important)

  • Experience of working in a food environment would be an advantage.

  • Self-motivated self starter able to work in a team environment.

  • Must be able to act quickly, effectively and safely without high levels of supervision.

  • Strong work ethic.
