Senior Sales Opportunities in Defence/IT Sector

The Company

Our client is a well established and funded provider to UK Government Departments and over 3000 other organisations of business critical software, digital solutions and managed services.  In essence these systems improve and automate daily tasks to transform essential activities digitally, raise standards and improve cost effectiveness.

The firm has made a recent strategic decision to penetrate the Defence market, of which it has no prior experience, and is thus seeking to build a high impact new Sales team in its Digital Business with relevant knowledge and contacts.  

Applications from military Officers with recent and relevant staff experience and appropriate personal characteristics are actively sought.  

These are urgent appointments – early availability preferred (essential for Sales Leader)

Roles exist at two levels:

Sales Leader

Location: Most business activities M4 corridor or London – no restriction on domestic location
Salary: £120k + generous incentives + package.  More may be available for an exceptional candidate.  

Key Requirements

  • Senior military officer, probably OF5/6 or above, possibly with post military Business Development experience though this is not essential provided candidates have the right underlying relationship building skills and resilience.

  • IT Services / Procurement Background – must have current knowledge of MOD software / digital procurement processes and key personalities (ideally 5 years +)

  • Manage (and possibly help select) team of 3 high quality Sales Executives targeting the MOD within a wider team of 7.

  • Outstanding and proven Interpersonal, Stakeholder Management and Organisational Skills – an accountable self starter; a strong written / oral communicator; a target oriented problem solver; a team player; conscientious and decisive; motivational and energetic

  • Could be an Interim Role – such applications will be considered, though permanent probably preferred.

Sales Executive x 3

Location: Most business activities M4 corridor or London
Salary: c£90k + generous incentives (On Target Earnings double) + package

Key Requirements

  • Senior military executive officer, probably OF4/5 level. May have post military Business Development experience though this is not essential provided candidates have the right underlying relationship building skills and resilience.

  • IT Services / Procurement Background – must have current knowledge of MOD software / digital procurement processes

  • Outstanding and proven Interpersonal, Stakeholder Management and Organisational Skills – an accountable self starter; a strong written / oral communicator; a target oriented problem solver; a team player; conscientious and decisive

Key Responsibilities

(both levels; weighting will vary between them)

  • Demonstrate sector knowledge with in depth appreciation of the Defence market / opportunities.

  • Identify and foster opportunities which represent closable business.

  • Qualify opportunities in terms of chance of success; competition; timescales; procurement process and Bid criteria: most opportunities are in the range £100k - £2m; with some being up to £5m.

  • Maintain accuracy of internal sales systems and report accordingly

  • Working knowledge of application development / marketplace

  • Attend industry events and conferences; provide feedback on trends (representational function)

  • Present to / consult with senior and mid level management with a view to developing new services, products and distribution channels

  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services and distribution channels to boost incremental Sales

  • Develop the firm’s Unique Selling Propositions and differentiators based on knowledge of the market and competitors
