Security Engineer

Location: London
Salary: Up to £35,000 based on experience

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated former Service man or woman to join a leading Security Consultancy. As a Security Engineer, you will be involved in designing, building and operating a secure network infrastructure using the latest security technologies.

Our client is a premier Security Consultancy with a proven track record of delivering security services to a number of FTSE 100 companies. This fast growing company has ambitious plans to expand their market leading cyber security practice and are particularly looking to hire ex-military personnel to be part of their exciting growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering and deployment of organisation’s portfolio of technologies.

  • Maintain & develop secure infrastructure services on Windows & Linux Server estates.

  • Providing up-keep and monitoring of infrastructure systems to continue delivering high quality systems.

  • Firewall administration

  • VMWare and Cloud infrastructure setup and support

  • Take responsibility for own training, learning and development activities.

  • Direct involvement with clients to gather requirements and deliver top quality service.

Key Requirements

  • Knowledge of operating systems and networking fundamentals.

  • Practical and theoretical awareness about information security, data protection & big data analytics.

  • Knowledge of both the Unix and Windows operating systems; must be comfortable on the command line interface.

  • Basic programming and scripting skills

  • Work experience of network, systems administration and 1st/2nd line user support is bonus.

  • Experience of producing technical documentation and reports.

  • Personal projects in computer sciences domain are huge bonus.


  • Firewall, Snort/Sourcefire or Splunk experience

  • Multilingual

  • BSc (MSc preferred) in computer science, cyber-security or a related field including engineering, mathematics, and other STEM subjects - but relevant military experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree


  • Solid communication skills and expertise to translate technical jargon into business familiar language.

  • Ability to quickly explore, examine and understand complex problems and how these relate to the customer’s business.

  • Able to quickly understand and interpret customer problems and navigate complex organisations.

  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated and self-educating, yet willing and able to work collaboratively with both customers and fellow consultants.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Well organised with a healthy sense of urgency, able to set; communicate; and meet aggressive deadlines with competing priorities.

  • Ability & flexibility to travel within Europe, Middle East and Africa up to 75% of time.
