Our client is an independent engineering and services business in the construction and infrastructure sector, with a variety of public and private sector clients.
The company has recently won significant MOD contracts, and is specifically looking for ex-military people to help deliver them. Supervisory construction experience is highly desirable.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced project manager to transfer their military project management skills to the private sector. In this role, you will control the overall operational delivery of a project, normally, up to the value of £6 million. You will take account of the safety, technical, commercial and managerial requirements of the project from bid and pre-commencement through to successful practical completion. You will also be responsible for ensuring that profitability is maintained or improved through effective leadership, high quality customer relations and management of relevant support functions allocated to the project.
Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project on which you are working.
Participate in bid activities in conjunction with the work winning team and processes; to ensure a professional, profitable, successful bid which provides agreed levels of turnover and meets customer expectations.
Manage pre-commencement activities in conjunction with the Pre-construction Manager, to maximise opportunities, efficiency and profitability in the delivery phase of the project. Review the project scope of works including installation methods, to ensure the precise provision of the customer’s requirements.
Working with project commercial lead, identify and manage project risks and opportunities, ensuring that these are commercially mitigated or enhanced to provide a clear and up to date risk position.
Lead the team to effectively manage the appointed specialist sub-contractors and ensure the work is being carried out safely, to the specification and programme.
Develop effective, sustainable relationships with key sub-contractor organisations.
Provide leadership for the project delivery team within the area of control; through clear provision of objectives, responsibilities and accountabilities, managing performance accordingly.
Offer guidance and feedback to maximise the performance of the team.
Lead Contract reviews, including the preparation and submission of requisite reports and all project related data. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of costs, values and programme forecasts; seeking opportunities to suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability.
Where required, help the Commercial Director prepare and update business plans and local management accounts. Customer Relations Develop/maintain positive long-term relationships with customers by understanding their requirements and ensuring that the project objectives are defined.
Lead project team/area under control to deliver against these objectives, ensure customer satisfaction and maintain sustainable relationships.
Lead project team to the safe and successful completion of the project/area under control within agreed timescales, agreed budgets and to meet specification and customer requirements; ensuring that the project is closed out in accordance with the requirements of PLAT.
Ensure that project defects are closed out in a timely manner to maintain client relationships and project profitability.
Significant in project delivery.
Building services experience in a construction environment or relevant military experience.
Industry recognised trade or professional qualification.
