Project Engineer (Construction)

Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an ex-military project engineer, preferably with construction engineering and/ or project experience.  You will be responsible for effective project engineering, ensuring that projects, or activities within the area of control, are engineered to specification and delivered safely, profitably and to the satisfaction of customers.

The Company

Our client is an independent engineering and services business in the construction and infrastructure sector, with a variety of public and private sector clients.

The company has recently won significant MOD contracts and is specifically looking for ex-military people to help deliver them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project on which you are working.

  • Participate and contribute to pre-commencement activities in conjunction with the Pre-construction Manager, to maximise opportunities, efficiency and profitability in the delivery phase of the project.

  • Review the project scope of works, including installation methods, to ensure the precise provision of the customer’s requirements.

  • Working with other project team members, contribute to the identification of project risks and opportunities, providing suggestions and taking responsibility for the mitigation or enhancement of those within your area of control.

  • Establish the financial and commercial objectives within your area of control and ensure that engineering solutions are procured and delivered to achieve these objectives.

  • As required, provide accurate and timely information to project management for inclusion in both site progress and financial reporting templates.

  • Manage the appointed specialist sub-contractors within your area of control and ensure the work is being carried out safely to specification and programme.

  • Provide leadership for the project team members within your area of control; setting clear expectations, offering guidance and feedback to maximise the performance of the team and ensure objectives are met.

  • Maintain positive relationships with the project customer through efficient delivery of project objectives with a view to optimising future opportunities.

  • Lead project team members within your area of control to the safe and successful completion within agreed timescales, to meet specifications and customer requirements; ensuring that the project is closed out in accordance with the requirements of PLAT.

  • Ensure that project defects are closed out in a timely manner to maintain client relationships and project profitability.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrable building services experience in a construction environment - or relevant military experience.

  • Industry recognised trade or professional qualification.
