Salary: between €5000 to €6500 per month (net) dependent on qualifications and experience.
Great opportunity for an ex-Service man or woman with Officers mess or hospitality/event experience, preferably working at sea. You’ll be managing the interior and galley teams on a 50m Feadship yacht, maintaining excellent customer service and the family style environment on-board.
The Chief Steward is key to successful running of the ship and heads the ‘front of house’ team and works alongside the First Officer and Senior Engineer as head of one of the 3 yacht based departments.
Heading up the interior with responsibility for creating an efficient and effective team that provides excellent service whilst maintaining the ‘family’ style environment.
Front of house for the professional daily management of the yacht.
Managing the interior team of four and the galley team (up to 2 chefs).
Carry out PA duties for the Owners as and when required (diary management, concierge, itineraries, kids’ activities etc).
Creating an interior team that works within the bigger team.
To set up systems (for example budgets, inventories, rosters, checklists, ordering forms, etc), which they will be expected to proactively manage themselves.
To communicate and manage the galley and the chef(s) effectively to produce interesting, varied and healthy menus.
Confident in communicating and managing owners’ requirements and expectations.
Ability to prioritise and organise.
Ability to think proactively, make decisions and stick by them.
Attention to detail with high standards.
Ability to plan and create schedules, budgets, scope of works, job lists, proposals and reports.
Fluent English, with high standards of written communication.
‘Mature’, worldly, professional and presentable.
A love of ‘food’ is important with an understanding of how dishes are created and the provenance of ingredients.

Experience in the service/hospitality/events sector with previous experience working on yachts and HNWI beneficial.
Someone with mess experience preferably on-board ship or a yacht
A cooking/chef background would be a benefit.
Experience in creating, leading and managing teams – including training, mentoring, appraisals and disciplining.
The Yacht is a 50m Feadship that is currently privately registered and does not charter. The Owners are European, with three young children under the age of five who are generally accompanied by one or sometimes two nannies. The boat for them is very much a home away from home; somewhere that they feel comfortable and suits their requirements as a family.
The Owners aim to instill a family atmosphere aboard, and care about their crew – they like familiar faces and know individual personally. It is not a charter boat, and in terms of service and day to day contact, the style is ‘family’ not ‘charter’ with the family preferring to be left alone rather than fussed over. A more formal approach is expected on the occasions when the family entertain.
The yacht is med based, with Owners planned trips to places such as the Balearic’s, Greece and Croatia. The boat is also used for events - including the Monaco Grand Prix - which are organised by one of the Owner’s companies; these are ‘on the dock’ and cater for around 60-100 guests. The boat has been known to be heavily used over the summer, mainly with the owners and extended family, with occasional long weekends with friends.
The Owners like the idea of multifunctional roles/experience within the team, for example childcare experience.
