We own and operate the railway infrastructure in England, Wales and Scotland on behalf of the nation.
That’s 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges and viaducts and thousands of tunnels, signals, level crossings and points. We also manage rail timetabling and 20 of the largest stations in England, Scotland and Wales.
We work round-the-clock to provide a safe, reliable experience for the millions using Europe’s fastest-growing railway each and every day.
The rail network is divided into nine areas, or routes, across the country.
In 2014 we devolved day-to-day responsibility for railway businesses to 10 strategic geographical routes – this has since been reduced to nine, including Freight and National Passenger Operations (FNPO). Each of these routes is run locally so that we can work more closely with the relevant train and freight operating companies to better meet the needs of passengers and businesses.
The Wessex route covers the major commuter area of south-west London as well as from London Waterloo to the south and south-west of England. This route is one of the busiest on the rail network, taking in all or part of the counties of Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
The Wessex route is currently recruiting across all areas of business and as a Gold Award holder, Network Rail wants to invite you to our inaugural recruitment event at our state of the art facility in Basingstoke.
